This section describes the Runtime Resources which are deployed on the D4ScienceAn e-Infrastructure operated by the D4Science.org initiative. Infrastructure and exploited by the iMarine VREs. The Services/Software described in this section are modeled as a particular type of Resources on the Information System ( Runtime Resources ) giving the possibility to the gCube services to dynamically discover their location and their encrypted access information.

Biodiversity repositories

The data for the biodiversity cluster are made available trough external Databases /services or hosted Databases which make use of the infrastructure resources. The following table depicts the characteristics of the Biodiversity Repositories hosted in the iMarine infra:

Maven repository

The Software artifacts deployed on the infrastructure are hosted or proxied from Maven Repositories deployed on the infrastructure as Nexus Servers

The following Nexus Servers are deployed on the infra.

SDMX Registry

SDMX Registry allows the registration of SDMX Datasources.

The technology deployed in the infra is the Fusion Registry:

MongoDB cluster

A MongoDB cluster is exploited in iMarine as a backend for the Storage Manager Library. The deployment schema is described at [1] with a 2 set of replica nodes + arbiter.

Cassandra cluster

A Cassandra cluster is exploited in iMarine as a backend for the Social Portal

Message Broker

ActiveMQ [2] is the Message Broker service exploited by the gCube framework.

The ActiveMQ broker is the key point of both Monitoring and Accounting functionalities in iMarine, because it routes messages coming from different probes to consumers which then make available information about gHNs status, infrastructure usage and user exploitation of the iMarine portal.

The current configuration deployed in production consists of a single instance of ActiveMQ deployed together with a MySQL server to implement message persistency, but a new deployment scenario is under testing. This new scenario will allow the deployment of a network of brokers, in order to ensure Messaging reliability and improve performances.

GeoServer and GeoNetwork

The GeoServer service is deployed in the D4science Ecosystem to enable GIS visualization of AquaMaps distribution and biodiversity maps. The Service is deployed together with an instance of PostgreSQL DB, in order to store GIS data.

Service Availability DB

The SAM infrastructure exploits remote DBs in order to store SAM tests results.

RStudio

The R-Studio (http://www.rstudio.org/) service is integrated within the gCube TimeSeries Environment to enable statistical elaboration of TimeSeries using the R language

WAR Mangement Tomcat

In order to support the WAR Management extension in gCube, some GHNs are responsible for the deployment/activation of Web applications on Apache Tomcat instances deployed in the production infrastructure:

MySQL Servers

Some of the gCube Services are using a MySQL backend to persist data ( e.g monitoring and accounting info)

PostgreSQL Servers

Some of the gCube Services are using a PostgreSQL backend to persist data ( e.g. TimeSeries, AquaMaps)
