WORK IN PROGRESS. MUST NOT BE USED FOR ANY OTHER WORK.

This VREVirtual Research Environment. allows to elaborate Species Fact Sheets, fill / view their metadata, and select data for download and-or display in a GISViewer. The explicit purpose is to enable some 50 authors to prepare hundreds of species fact sheets. The tools will be operated by one VREVirtual Research Environment. manager in FAO, and builds heavily on FCPPS.

Product

FishFinder is a fact-sheet tool, and will allow to define, pre-fill, and elaborate a fact sheet using a template. It will be marshaled by a work flow, with one VREVirtual Research Environment. manager communication with dozens of authors globally distributed. A fact-sheet will be given a scientific species name from a controlled list, and following a number of criteria, in particular taxonomic names; fill specific areas of the fact sheet with information; these can be either visible data or invisible metadata. The users will be assigned their tasks on particular fact-sheets through the work-flow features of the reporting environment. A very closely related activity will be the off-line reporting tool.

It can be accessed here: https://portal.i-marine.d4science.org/

Priority to CoPCommunity of Practice.
List proposed solution priority following the iMarine Board priority setting criteria:
Ecology, modeling, biogeography, conservation;
  • Academia, NGO, Governemental agencies;
  • On project basis, as part of technological support;
  • Structural allocation of resources;
  • Referred in DoW;
  • Business Cases;
  • How does the proposed action generally support sustainability aspects;
  • How consistent it is with EC regulations/strategies (eg INSPIRE);
  • Re-usability – benefits – compatibility;
Parentage
The tool will have to be interoperable at data level with the FiMES branch for Species Profiles;
The VREVirtual Research Environment. will use D4S reporting technologies
Productivity
Are the proposed measures effective?
Does it reduce a known workload?
Presentation
How must the component be delivered to users? (UI Design / on-line help / training material / support)
Policy
Are there any policies available that describe data access and sharing?
Have the Copyright / attribution / metadata / legal aspects been addressed from a user and technology perspective?
